Backgroud to a rising star for 2012
Hertfordshire born and bred, Scarlette Fever is a rising star. In the beginning it was all karaoke machines and dreaming of duets with Aretha Franklin. “I really ought to have been a marine biologist,” Scarlette says. “I wanted to swim with sharks!”
A passion for music, however, steered Scarlette from ’Jaws,’ to other shark-infested waters, otherwise known as the music industry! 2011 began with the success of the highly addictive ‘Crash & Burn,’ which exploded into the nation’s consciousness in the freezing winds of January. B-listed on BBC Radio 2, and also reaching #2 on the Billboard Breakout Club Chart, ‘Crash & Burn’ also won praise across the media from The Sun to music trade mag Record of The Day.
“It’s a very special song to me,” says Scarlette. “A few years ago, I lost a very close friend, which had a profound effect on how I view life. I decided to always take chances, and to never leave a stone unturned with regards to relationships – because life really is just too short. “
Its success saw Scarlette complete a sell-out UK tour supporting the legendary Mike & The Mechanics, which included a show at the Royal Albert Hall, she followed the tour in the summer with the release of second single ‘Black & White’ (co-written with Alex Smith from Metrophonic) and debut album ‘Medication Time.’
But it’s current single ‘Elated’ that has consolidated Scarlette’s success. Again B-listed on Radio 2, as well as winning acclaim across the national press, its won fans with its searingly honest subject matter:
“It’s a song about growing up; the stark reality that there isn’t always a happy ending, that dreams don’t always come true,” she says.
The video was directed by Dani Jacobs (Moby, Texas, Gary Barlow), streamed across the board online, where we join a nostalgic Scarlette, alone in North London’s beautiful Cecil Sharpe House, with just her piano and reels of her childhood Super 8 footage for company.
From studios to hits to tours, 2011 has been a fantastic year for Scarlette. “After spending the year taking my music up and down the country, we’ve made some big and exciting changes,” says Scarlette. “We went back to basics recording four songs in a couple of days all in one live room.”
Scarlette is currently out on the road touring every major town with man of the 90’s Roachford. Catch her at one of the gigs all dates listed in the ‘News & Dates’ page of her website.
And, finally, what does 2012 hold for this most illustrious of singer-songwriters?
“I’ll keep you posted,” she says, with a wink.
